The Lingo

Surro-short for surrogate
IPs-Intended Parents (a couple in the process of a surrogacy journey)
IF(s)-Intended Father(s)
FIPs-Former Intended Parents (a couple who has completed a surrogacy journey)
IVF- In vitro Fertilization (when an embryo is created by combining sperm and egg outside the uterus and then implanted into the uterus via vaginal catheter)
Transfer- when IVF takes place, when the embryo(s) are transferred into the uterus
3dp5dt-3 days past a 5 day transfer (a 5 day transfer being a transfer that occurred 5 days after sperm and egg are united, making the embryo 5 days old. Most transfers occur at 3 or 5 days)
POAS- pee on a stick (taking a home pregnancy test)
BFP- big fat positive (a positive pregnancy test)
BFN- big fat negative (a negative pregnancy test)
RE- Reproductive Endocrinologist (the doctor usually in charge of IVF)
Beta- a blood test that measures the amount of HCG in the blood. The presence of HCG indicates pregnancy (any amount is good; I believe 50+ is preferred)
2WW- 2 week wait (the dreaded waiting period between transfer and beta)
